IRS Simplifies Reporting Requirements for Corps and Shareholders

Auto Date Saturday, May 31st, 2008

The IRS is heavily promoting electronic filing options. This promotion has run into problems with corporations because of complex regulations. The IRS is now moving to correct this problem.

IRS Simplifies Reporting Requirements for Corps and Shareholders

Corporate tax filings are legendary for their complexity, number of forms that must be filed and general burden they create. Large, publicly traded corporations make every effort to file the proper forms, but the burden is such that when all is said and done, one corporation reported it had to file the equivalent of three tax forms for every working hour of the year. For small corporations and shareholders, the burden is not much less.

Given this massive tax burden, the idea of a corporation filing electronic tax returns is laughable. The IRS has finally realized as much. In response, it is making an effort to simplify or do away with regulations. In fact, the service has changed over 20 different regulatory groups to massively simplify a variety of tax situations.

One area of simplification has to do with the transfer of interest in certain types of corporate share transfers. Known as a section 351 transfer, the regulations previously required both the corporation and shareholder to file up to 18 different information items. Yes, 18! To simplify this mess, the IRS is now requiring the filings only for individuals that own more than five percent of a publicly traded company or one percent of a private company. Those still required to file will now only have to provide very basic information. This is a vast improvement on the old system.

One of the big red tape problems for corporate and shareholder filings is a simple one. The IRS has historically required everything to be physically signed by certain shareholders. This was essentially a method for forcing shareholders to come forward regardless of the corporate planning being done. The IRS is now de-emphasizing the signature requirements and allowing the same forms to simply be filed electronically. It sounds like a small thing until you go through the experience of sending a form to 15 different shareholders around the country.

The effort of the IRS to simply corporate and shareholder filings should be applauded. It is a small step in dealing with a large problem.

Top Ten Creative Excursions for Building Effective Teams

Auto Date Saturday, May 31st, 2008

The ability to build effective teams is a must for any organization who wants to succeed in the millennium. This article offers ten examples of highly creative excursions which can provide insight into developing the leadership qualities essential for success in challenging times.

1. A Day Trip to the Sharper Image

The Sharper Image is a specialty retailer that is nationally and internationally renowned as a leading source of new, innovative, high-quality products that make life better and more enjoyable. Founder, Chairman, and CEO, Richard Thalheimer started this business 25 years ago with one goal in mind: to have fun!

The Sharper Image is a company that thrives on special conveniences and innovative products that sit on the cutting edge of technology. This day trip is fantastic for stimulating creativity and becoming a forward thinker!

2. A Day Trip to the Gettysburg Battlefield

A visit to this historical Civil War battlefield in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, can be an empowering lesson in leadership. This day trip can be devoted to walking the historic site while evaluating the leadership decisions and structures that General Robert E. Lee struggled with over 140 years ago. Prior to this day trip, I recommend that those attending the trip read the book, “Leadership Lessons from the Civil War” by Tom Wheeler. It is an extraordinary book that takes a close look at the parallels between business and military strategy.

3. A Day Trip to ING Direct

With locations in New York City, NY, and Philadelphia, PA, ING Direct takes the “dull” out of banking. The facade is made of glass. On the inside are café tables and biscotti, Internet stations and mochas, and clients hanging out just for the fun of it. This innovative company invests the majority of its time, energy, and money in technology, marketing, and in making people feel proud about saving their money…and to make them feel that saving is a cool and hip thing to do. The website itself (www.ingdirect.com) is a wild and fun excursion, breaking away from the traditional and stepping way out on the edge. This day trip can create a lightning bolt effect for motivating your company to move to new levels of creativity and innovation.

4. Carnegie Hall and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra

The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra was conceived by cellist Julian Fifer and a group of fellow musicians in the 1970s. The Orpheus process is highly unique, for this is an orchestra with no conductor. In the absence of a conductor, the individual musicians of Orpheus must rely on one another for innovation and team building. The self-governing and leadership abilities have not only made Orpheus a group of highly gifted musicians, but has built a world which teaches those who observe them to understand that a CEO never has or should have all of the answers. Central to the collaborative process of Orpheus is the sharing and rotating of leadership roles. This unique approach unleashes the talent, vision, creativity, and the leadership of each and every member of the group. Observe this group carefully, and ask your team “What is it about this group that is so compelling? How can we use their system for our success?”

5. A Week-End at Universal Studios (Orlando, FL; Hollywood, CA; Japan and Spain)

Are you having fun? I mean: “Are you really having fun?” If you are or are not, consider a journey through a week-end filled with fun, adventure, wonder, and wild times. Spend a few great days being a kid again with E.T. (the Extra-Terrestrial,) Men in Black, Jaws, Barney, and Nickelodeon. Why? In times when innovation is so crucial to success, we must challenge our teams to do the things we think we cannot do, are off-beat, or are seemingly crazy and wild to the rest of the world. Outdoor challenges involving fun, laughter, and raw adventure can spark problem solving and teamwork and can be a fantastic approach for reducing stress and incorporating fun and laughter into the corporate setting.

6. A Day Trip to NASA: The Kennedy Space Center

Want a little inspiration and motivation for building effective teams? By visiting the Kennedy Space Center, your team can witness how history and the future, nature and technology, young and old meet for an unforgettable and highly creative journey through space and time. The Kennedy Space Center tells a compelling story of how the United States built a space program that launched men to the moon and have orbited satellites that have improved our life on earth.

7. The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, New York, has brought together thousands of works of art that display a full and extraordinary range of creativity which can enhance your team building efforts. See and hear a story of human deceit from “The Kitano Tnjin Engi Emaki,” a thirteenth century picture scroll. Open a discussion around the historic moment when General George Washington led the American revolutionary troops across the Delaware in “George Washington Crossing the Deleware.” Explore Korea’s distinctive cultural identity and the ways in which the arts of Korea have been affected by trade and diplomacy, by war and peace, and by religion and philosophy. This day trip is one that is filled with curiosity, creativity, and of seeing the perspective of people and cultures from around the world.

8. A Day Trip to Nordstrom

Outstanding customer service and Nordstrom go hand in hand. Their innovative approach has allowed them to find out exactly what the customer needs and wants and then gives it with grace and style. A family-owned business, Nordstrom considers their customers a part of their extended family, and the corporate culture supports and encourages salespeople to engage in intimate business dialogue and relationships with key vendors in each department. A visit to Nordstrom will teach you how to better respond to customer’s needs so that they will come back to you again and again and will teach you the lessons of : valuing outstanding customer service, bonding with each and every customer, and giving people on the frontline the freedom to make decisions.

9. A Four-Day Hike on the Appalachian Trail

From Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia, the Appalachian National Scenic Trail wanders the ridges and valleys of the Appalachian range for more than 2,168 miles. Those who have traveled this trek return feeling much more light- hearted, saying that they no longer sweat the small stuff in life. One of the biggest benefits of walking the Appalachian trail is that you and your team will learn adaptability, and you will begin to appreciate the people and things in life that you often take for granted. Many people report that even one week of hiking is a life changing experience. They realize that a fast pace of living and that money, prestige, and power are only surface deep…that the true beauty of life lies in the secrets of nature.

10. A Day of Brainstorming

A Super S.W.O.T. Session with a communications company is a great way to offer your company a highly creative day of brainstorming. This session should be a fast-paced, deeply probing session highly designed for your organization’s best thinkers. Using easels, drawing pads, and other audio visuals, a great facilitator will keep the ideas flowing by asking you first to boil down your mission statement to ten words or less. From here, they focus on your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. These critical factors are listed, considered, and ranked to show you the three most significant factors in each S.W.O.T. category. The results are always revealing and often quite surprising. A session can require as little as three hourson up to a full day.

One way to get content for your website

Auto Date Saturday, May 31st, 2008

You can find couple ways to get content for your website but in
this article I’m only going to talk about one way to get content
for your website.

Free Articles is one way to get content for your website. You
can find some websites where people submit their articles and
you can download them for content for your site. One thing that
you need to know it’s that the article is free to download and
you can use it for content but you can’t change or modify the
article when you add the article to your site. Also you need to
give credit to the author of the article.

With this method of getting content for you website you can have
a lot of content on your site in just couple minutes and Good
Content means better ranking on the search engines for you site.
Don’t just go and download any articles to your site just to
have content because if you download articles that don’t have
anything to do with your site you won’t get the benefit of
having better ranking. Search Engines look for Content, Inbound
Links, Links Exchange and some other factors to give your
website good rankings, but if you don’t have good content on
your website then you won’t be able to reach the top on search
engines as fast as you want.

In this article, I want you to see and learn how easy is to get
content for your website. This is just one step to get better
rankings but if you combine this with other methods you’ll be
able to be ranking good in the search engines.

How the Writer Survives

Auto Date Friday, May 30th, 2008

So it’s your dream to write novels? Be a freelance writer and make a living off of your articles? Or maybe you nurture an ambition to write and sell enough short fiction to put bread on the table, like those writers of the golden age of the pulps?

Well, those are all noble dreams to have. I’m smitten by the writer’s glamour myself. Also I’m grateful for the others who were, those authors whom I love to read and return to time and again. I’m grateful that they possessed not only their artistic vision, but also the sheer stubbornness and will to persevere and see their dreams become reality.

So we’ve settled on the fact that we want to be writers, and that no other dream will do. Now let’s take a look at what this is likely to mean in terms of the sacrifices we’ll have to make along the way.

1. Misunderstanding.

Make no doubts about it - even those closest to us may not understand or even sympathize with our dream. Young authors still in school or living at home should prepare themselves for the advice of well-meaning but frightened parents; which typically will be encouragement in ANOTHER direction. With all that time spent on the computer, you could build a career as a typist. How about data entry? Web design? They have a lot of great courses at the college for that.

Adult writers can oftentimes expect a similar reaction from their significant others; though in this case, the motivation might be someone different. Why don’t you pursue something that there’s a FUTURE in?

People who give this sort of advice are doubtlessly well-steeped in all the lore of the suffering artist. Parents don’t want to see their children go through it; husbands and wives aren’t all that eager to see their spouses get caught up in that trap either.

But the real question here is this: are YOU ready to believe in yourself enough to persevere even in the face of this negative (though well-meant, perhaps) feedback?

2. A social life? What’s that?

To finish a novel could easily take up a thousand hours or more of your time. That means almost three hours a day if you want to get it done in a year. And this is a modest estimate. Now maybe you’re willing to give up T.V. time, leisure reading, evenings out with your sweetheart, etc. You want to be a novelist that badly. But wait! The trials don’t stop there.

Your friends and family will want explanations. WHY can’t you go over to Lucky’s and hang out tonight? Why do you never pick up the phone at night (or in the morning or whenever you write)?

Now it’s one thing to have college papers to write, or mid-terms to study for, or overtime hours at work. Those are all socially acceptable obligations. But tell your friends that you’re staying in every evening to write and probably the best reaction you can hope for is a blank stare.

Are you ready to say: “Too bad if they can’t understand”?

3. Rejection upon rejection.

Let’s say we pass the first two hurdles. We don’t listen to people’s attempts (however well-intentioned) to dissuade us, and we plug away at our stories even though it means we can’t enjoy the leisure and down time of “normal” people. We put those thousand-odd hours into our work, and when it’s all done we’re proud of it. We write query letters, mail submissions, and sit back and dream of that fat advance, the book signing tour and the movie offers.

Then the unthinkable happens. We get one return letter after another, and all of them are variations of this: “Thank you for sending us [our work]. It was indeed interesting, but not quite what we’re looking for at this time.”

This happens to everyone. It has happened to me numerous times, and if it never happens to you then you will be entered into the history books of publishing. You may reach the point where a PERSONAL rejection letter instead of a pre-printed rejection feels like an accomplishment.

Remember the dream. Remember the passion that drove you to devote all those hours to writing in the first place, at the expense of your social life and leisure. Then send your work out again, because you didn’t pass the first two tests for nothing. When and if you get feedback, see if there’s anything constructive within it and learn for next time. You’ll be another rung up the ladder to success.

We writers survive and find our way because we weren’t meant to BE anything else.

Oreck Air Purifiers - 5 Reasons Why We Need An Air Purifier For Our Own Home

Auto Date Friday, May 30th, 2008

It is also estimated that with the air pollution, 40-50 million Americans now suffer from air related allergies and 17 million battle asthma, many times causing important health issues and expenditure.

The typical american home, or any home in the world, enables germs, fungi, virus and bacteria to grow within the confines of its 4 walls. If inhaled into the lungs, germs can cause cold, flu, pneumonia and other respiratory infections…and all these are related to the air quality we breathe in daily.

If we care for our health, these findings and research results is a great concern to us, firstly those in America and then internationally.

As outdoors are quickly getting more inconvenient for the busy worker to find time to breathe in fresh air, it becomes very important for the typical american to take steps to ensure the air he and his family breathe in at home is clean and free from pollutants to the highest degree.

And that way is to have the use of a powerful air purifier that can allow a room of 30X30 ft to be cleansed thorougly within an hour so that we can breathe in fresh pristine air, right in the comfort of our own homes.

This is the work of the Oreck Air Purifier…the hallmark of quality and dependability. Like the matured horse, the Oreck Air Purifier brand has stood the tests of time and quality. Imagine, their Oreck xl Air Professional Purifier comes with a 12 year guarantee and there are rave reviews of immense satisfaction and acclaim for this air purifier that is accessible for reading and checking on record.

Now, when we next step into the comfort of our own homes, we must not be mulled by a false sense of comfort, and forgetting the fact that the air indoors is 5 times more polluted than that outside!

The air we breathe dictates our health. This is the most compelling reason why we need an air purifier for our own homes.

Dreams

Auto Date Friday, May 30th, 2008

When I was a kid sitting in school I can remember looking out the window daydreaming of mountains, and skiing. These were just a few things I dreamed of doing. Over the years the daydreams have continued.

Do you have daydreams. Silly question to be asking
right. But when was the last time you stopped to think
about that daydream. Think right now about how your
life would be if you had the freedom to do whatever
you dreamed of. I am often reminded of the movie
“Cinderella” when Leslie Ann Warren sang the words
“In my own little corner, in my own little chair, I can
be whatever I want to be”.

How about Judy Garland when she was on a quest
to know what life was like outside the farm in “The
Wizard of OZ”. when she sang “Somewhere over the
rainbow, way up high, there’s a land that I dreamed of,
once in a lullaby”

We all have dreams that we hold onto. Pictures of how
we know it can be, that give us the hope that keeps us
moving forward.

Why though do we only dream, and continue to, for 95%
of people, drudge along doing the same thing day in day
out, week in week out, year in year out. My profession
for the last 21 years except for a short break has been
Law Enforcement. I have seen what people do, not only
to themselves to self destruct, but to the ones they care
about most. Frustration and the feeling of futility are like
the constant drip, drip, drip like a kind of daily water torture
without the water.

People drone along day after day on a quest for the week-
End. Two days of a chance physically and mentally to get
away from whatever box that holds them from what they
truly desire.

Its sad to hear what people say when you really stop and
Listen. I recently heard someone say, “Oh, so and so is
having a good day”. Then the person being referred to
said ” I must be nuts” as if its some kind of a sickness
to be happy.

Its been said the average person only stops to think 3 or
4 times in their lifetime. A close family member gets sick,
a disaster like 9/11 happens and for a brief period we stop
and think and say to ourselves, what am I doing. However
in a day or so the shock wears off and they fall hopelessly
back into the safety of the rut.

When you were learning to walk did you just hope right up
and truck across the room, I would venture to say you didn’t.
I would guess you fell, stumbled, got back up. Inch by inch,
step by step, with sore knees and some tears you made it.
Even after your first success you still had to try, but once
you learned you could do it, your little legs could scoot you
across the floor so fast at times, full grown mom had to run
to catch you.

I have great news for you. If this article has sturred you,
and I sincerely hope that it has, I am here to tell you, that
as for your long lost dreams, there is hope. I can hear
you saying, Dave I have tried everything already. This is the
same response I had until the true secret was shared with
me several years ago.

The answer is not in a program, article, tape series, or
hot deal. The answer to your dreams, the places you have
longed to see, time you desire to spend with the ones you
love, freedom to travel, all you truly want I will show you in
the next two paragraphs.

If you are not at home put this article away until you are,
and can follow these instructions to the letter. Trust me, the
life you live and the dreams you hold dear are worth the wait.

If you are I want you to get up right now and walk into your
bathroom. Yes I know, this is a strange place to find the
answer to your dreams but you will see why in just a minute.
Look in the mirror at the person looking back at you. There
is the answer to all that you have ever dreamed of, ITS YOU.
No one knows you like you know you.

I can hear you saying, I’ve tried on my own before and failed.
I’m here to tell you, you can make it, and not just make it, but
You can make it in a big, big way. Everything you need to get
your dreams back is within reach. The tools are all available
to help you. As my friend Jim Rohn says “All the books you
need, all the training you need, all the money you need, all
the classes you need, its all here.

One place you can start is to begin to put the right things
into your mind. We live in a negative world, and you need to
guard against the negative voice. One way you can guard
against them is to eliminate the newspaper and nightly
news. You may be saying “Oh but how will I know what
is going on”. If it is important enough for you to know it
someone will tell you.

To begin with the good things start with your car. The
average American drives 12 thousand miles to and from
work each year. This comes to somewhere between
500 and 1000 hours on the road each year. Turn your car
into a mobile classroom. Bob and Tom in the morning
might be funny, but your future success is no laughing
matter.

Pull the dreams of the past out and blow the dust off
of them. Write them down. Go through some magazines
and cut out pictures that represent what you want and see
for your future. Get started today.

Cold Nights and Hot Games: Great Alaska Shootout Basketball Tourney

Auto Date Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Each year, colleges and universities from all over the nation send their men’s basketball teams to the “Last Frontier State” to the Great Alaska Shootout Basketball Tourney. The competition heats up the cold winter days and nights, as teams meet head on to battle for buckets. Colleges and universities get the opportunity to play against their top rivals and powerhouses of the game. These games draw in record crowds each year, as any basketball fan should not miss the chance to attend this fast paced pre season classic.

The main question on any sports fan’s mind is, why Alaska? The reason is simple, former University of Alaska Anchorage head coach, Bob Rachal found a loophole in the NCAA rules determining pre season play. In an effort to draw more attention to the state, the University of Alaska Anchorage, and the Seawolves athletic program, Rachal became the mastermind of what began as the Sea Wolf Classic. The NCAA rules stated any games played outside the contagious 48 states did not count towards a program’s pre determined allotment. For this reason, participants of the Great Alaska Shootout Basketball Tourney can get an early gauge of their teams prowess against national talent.

The first Sea Wolf Classic was held in 1978 for the ‘78-’79 basketball season and saw the Wolfpack of North Carolina State University crush the University of Louisville’s Cardinals. The tournament ended in 1978, leaving many wondering if it would become an annual event. Much to everyone’s relief, the Sea Wolf Classic became a Thanksgiving tradition in 1979, but under a new name.

Broadcaster Billy Packer is credited with changing the name from the Sea Wolf Classic to the Great Alaska Shootout Basketball Tourney back in 1979. In this stunning tournament, the title game came down to the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Iona College Gaels. The Wildcats proved too powerful for the tiny New York school, and emerged victorious as the second champion of this fantastic new basketball challenge.

A list of past champions reads like a who’s who of College basketball, including NC State, Louisville, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, and UCLA to name a few.

The attendance may have been meager in the early days, but soon the action caught on, and now college basketball fans of all ages flock to the state for the Thanksgiving weekend Great Alaska Shootout Basketball Tourney. What better way to celebrate our national day of thanks than by cheering on teams from all across the country? Many hotels, cruises, and lodges have special packages designed with the college basketball fan in mind.

If you find you cannot wait until December to enjoy hot hoops action, head to Anchorage and watch the action melt away the snow! Plan a trip for the family and bring budding sports fans to experience the thrilling display of skill and sportsmanship, or make it a raucous occasion for celebration with your best hoops loving buds. Whoever you bring, just make sure you bring yourself to this annual college basketball showdown!

A lifelong Alaskan, Ron Richards lives in the beautiful Matanuska Valley. Ron invites you to come and see Alaska. One excellent way to enjoy Alaska is by taking an affordable Alaska Cruise. Visit http://findanalaskacruise.com to learn more.

Choices for Digital Cameras

Auto Date Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

There are so many different choices in digital cameras. There
are many things to consider when you are deciding on the best
camera for you. You should think about why you want one and what
you are going to do with the camera the most. Are you going to
be using it on a daily basis to take all different kinds of
pictures, or are you going to use your digital camera for
special occasions? Whatever the purpose for your camera, you
will see that you will have many choices and you can find one
just suited for your needs.

Digital cameras have so many different options, just as
non-digital cameras do. You can zoom in and out like with other
cameras. You can also do other fun things with digital cameras.
There are certain kinds of cameras that allow you to add borders
to your pictures and have different backgrounds to use. Some
have red eye fix in them for your ease in use. These designs fix
red eyes in the pictures so that great shots are not ruined.

There are also digitals that have bigger memories than others.
If you have a camera that does not have a big memory, you can
buy SIM cards to give you more memory so that you can take more
pictures at one time. SIM cards are nice to because you can take
the card out to store the pictures on a computer or disc. This
is a great way to share your pictures with other through email.
Doing this will save you money and time when it comes to sharing
your wonderful memories through pictures.

You can also buy accessories for your digital camera to create
different lightings, backgrounds, and looks for your photos. You
can purchase a carrying case so that you will be able to keep
your camera safe when you are not using it and when you want to
take with you on trips. You can also get straps and other fun
things to add to the convenience of your digital camera.

If you are afraid to try a digital camera, you should not be.
They are easy to use and easy to understand. Make sure that you
read your manual for your digital camera because each is
different. This will make it a lot easier to operate your camera
and it will make you love your digital camera even more. You
will love it so much that you will take it with you where ever
you go.
